How To Apply Eye Makeup

Cosmetics can help mask imperfections and enhance natural beauty. The most commonly used products by women all over the world include foundation, powder, blush, lipstick and of course, eyeshadow. If you're not sure how to apply eye make-up, keep reading. In this article we will go over the basics of creating a beautiful eye and achieving several different looks. The first step is to gather your tools. For a basic eye you will need foundation or eyeshadow primer, loose powder, eyeshadow, shadow brush, eye liner and mascara. There are other items and tools that may come into play depending on the look you are going for.

Neutral colors look fabulous on every woman, regardless of skin tone or eye color. Shades of earthy brown, taupe and beige are examples of neutral tones. For a neutral look you will need three coordinating shades in the same color family. One should be dark, one should be medium and one should be light. You could use dark brown, light brown and white or cream. For best results, use a shadow brush rather than the sponge-tip applicator that came with the shadow. Sweep the medium color all over the lid and just below the browbone. Take the darkest color and apply it to the crease of the eye. The lightest color goes right below the browbone to act as a highlight. You can use brown or black liner on upper lids only then follow with mascara for a natural look. For a more dramatic look apply liner to lower lashes also.

The smoky eye is a fabulous look for day or night. While the traditional smoky eye uses black and charcoal shadows, you can use any color you like. For example, you can use brown, purple, green, blue or burgundy. Different colors accentuate different eye colors. For blue eyes, try brown. Green eyes look great with purple or burgundy shadow. Brown eyes look lovely with blue eyeshadow. Of course, there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to eyeshadow colors. When doing the smoky eye, line both the top and bottom lids with eyeliner and top with layers of dark shadow, smudged gently. Finish the look with two coats of black mascara.

When learning how to apply eye-makeup, play around with different looks and shadow colors until you find what looks best on you. To brighten the eye area, apply a tiny bit of shimmery white shadow at the inner corner of the eye. White eyeliner applied to the lower lash line makes the eyes look larger. And don't forget your brows -- a beautifully groomed brow can take years off the face. Pluck under the natural brow line, not on top of it. The arch should be positioned at the third outer half of the brow for the most natural look. If you feel uncomfortable plucking or waxing your own brows, most any salon can groom your brows for a reasonable price.
